A New Year’s dream! What’s your dream? Do you have one? Even in the movie opening of “Pretty Woman” a man walks down the street randomly asking, “What’s your dream.”
So, tell me, what is your dream for the new year? Is it new or is it the same one you have had year after year? Have you made out your plan for the things you want to accomplish for this year? Have you given much thought to what you want your future to become? Do you think your dream is something beyond what you deserve? If you do, will it be like every past year that just goes from one day to the next with your dreams slipping by the wayside and the wishes floating away like smoke on the wind? Have you put off thinking about these questions because you think they are too hard to answer? Let me ask you one more question; Are you ready to make your dream come true?
I have a great imagination and can dream all sorts of scenarios (albeit not written down) of how my life would be in one dream after another. Disappointingly, none of those dream scenarios ever came true. But I never gave up on dreaming the dreams or wishing the wishes.
Then a friend told and showed me what was missing; a scenario, by definition, is a written outline. I had never written down my dreams or my wishes. I had not committed it to paper or said it aloud. That friend further explained that to bring the dream into reality, I needed to figure out what steps I needed to take to bring my dream to fruition.
A daunting idea, YES! Impossible, NO!
I didn’t know where to start; what steps would I need to take to get from point A to point B and ultimately to live my dream. Should I go to the library for books on the subject? I was certain there were innumerable books on the subject, but how long would it take to read them to find the answer I needed for my particular dream? Would the new year run out before I found my first step? I could go online and search the information, but which one to choose, and would that information be more applicable? You can spend hours and hours online looking for one answer! Again, would the new year run out before I found my first step?
My head was swimming with doubt and confusion. I had to make a choice since I didn’t want to go along in the same old directionless manner. Suddenly, it dawned on me; that if my friend had headed me in this direction, perhaps my friend would have the answers needed as to where and how to start! That friend did!
Let’s use the want of a newer car as my example. Not too far-fetched since I do want a newer or new car.
- First: I needed to decide on what brand of car I wanted including the style, color, and amenities. And one that wouldn’t get me a speeding ticket.
- Second: Get a picture of the exact car I had chosen and put it on my wall where I saw it several times a day, every day!
- Third: Find out the total price of that car and put it on the picture of the car.
- Fourth: (and for me the hardest) Figure out the steps I would have to take to have the money to purchase the car. That friend can give you suggestions.
- Fifth: Write down the tips given to you and put them into action every day.
- Sixth: DON’T GIVE UP! If you falter along the way, pick up where you left off and move forward again.
I knew what I had done in the past, merely floating along not making waves, and slowly moving toward eliminating my debt, wasn’t working. This is where I realized I needed to rethink my money-making options. I knew I couldn’t reenter the standard workforce; working for some company or other. I began researching, investigating, and comparing so I could make a decision.
And I did. Months before, I had saved an ad for posting ads online from home. It sounded rather simple especially since they would show me how to do the online stuff. And a job I could do FROM HOME!
